Dear Editor,
Anyone’s heart would certainly empathise with the recent tragedy of the three young children who drowned in Region 9. It is so difficult for anyone to lose a child moreso children in such a horrific manner. Editor, I love the interior of Guyana and I was privileged to have visited many parts over the years. What I have noticed however is how fast a child has to grow up in those areas and learning to swim is a must. Editor I have read the article but nowhere did the findings state that those children knew how to swim and it would appear that they probably visited the pond before or another possibility may suggest that they probably got lost and wandered away.
Editor, whatever the circumstances are we as parents need to be more responsible for our children. We all have to navigate life through tough circumstances but our children should be our first priority because when something as tragic as this happens we would still find a way to earn a living but we would not be able to replace our children. Those children that perished were still babies. They needed to be protected from all dangers known and unknown. It hurts just to read about this tragedy much less for the parents and relatives who have suffered in this loss.
I hope we parents revisit our responsibilities and take care of our children because when something like this happens it would forever leave a huge void. I send condolences to the bereaved families.
