National Champion Ramdeen to commence campaign today

National champion in the international draughts format, which is played on the 100-square board, Jairam Ramdeen, will open his campaign today at the 22nd Pan American Championships at the National Stadium in La Sabana Metropolitan Park, San Jose.

Jairam, who departed local shores yesterday, will be Guyana’s first representative at this level, according to a release from the local association. Guyana was slated to feature a two-member team, but unfortunately, the other participant, Mark Brathwaite, was injured in an accident and was unable to travel.

The winner of the event will pocket $US1500, while the second, third, fourth, and fifth-place finishers will receive US$1000, US$500, US$300, and US$200, respectively. 

Meanwhile, the Blitz Tournament of the Championship will occur on the 12th. The event also concludes on the 12th.
