I would like to add my piece regarding the services that are provided to patients at the Intensive Care Unit at the Georgetown Public Hospital. I was a patient there for four days and my contact with the nurses and doctors that are attached to the hospital began at the Diamond Diagnostic Hospital. I was in pain when I was rushed there, and the doctors and nurses were very professional, courteous and helpful in their attention to me. I was rushed via ambulance from DDH to GPHC’s Accident & Emergency Unit. Everyone there was very brisk and timely, no unnecessary delay, and I was soon rushed to a bed and hooked up to various tubes etc., I was cared for by two or three personnel (medical) until by chest pain abated and was taken to the cardiac ward (if that is the correct label) via wheel chair.
My stay in that ward was very comfortable: the nurses were friendly, brisk and efficient. At no time was there any complaints from fellow patients or visitors. The visits from the doctors and nurses to the patients were timely and pleasant. I had mixed feelings before, about GPHC but my stay there, though brief, changed my opinion altogether. I do not think that the private hospitals are any way better, in terms of service, than the public hospitals. And I must also say that the operation, which I received free of cost at GPHC, would have been beyond my means of payment anywhere else. I thank the nurses and doctors for the dedication they brought to the medical profession. I believe that the quality of nurses and doctors is far advanced in their dedication and expertise. That they showed their love of the profession in the way that they approach and interact with all involved. The Ministry of Health must be commended.
