Henrietta man remanded on gun charge

A 32-year-old man was on Monday remanded to prison by Magistrate Tamieka Clarke at the Charity Magistrate’s Court after he appeared before her charged with being in possession of a firearm without being the holder of a licence.

According to a release from the police, Cleon Alphonso, unemployed, of Henrietta, Essequibo Coast, was apprehended on April 4th, 2024, at Anna Regina Public Road, Essequibo Coast.

During his court appearance Alphonso pleaded guilty. However, the release said, based on his medical condition, a not-guilty plea was entered, and he was remanded to prison.

The matter was adjourn-ed to April 30th, 2024, for a report on the medical evaluation of the defendant.
