The optics with the children benefitting from free eye glasses were not good

Dear Editor,

I refer to your edition of 11th April with a story on Primary School children benefitting from free eye glasses. Congratulations to the Ministries of Education, Health and Mount Sinai. However, in a country where ethnic consciousness is high I am afraid the optics in the photograph accompanying the story is not good. Your article mentions children from Regions 1, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 10 were recipients but the picture shows nine children of African origin. I am hoping surely that some Amerindian and East Indian children were identified as potential beneficiaries of this venture to improve eyesight of young children. Is it that the Amerindian and East Indian children were not available for photographs? Or is that only African pupils were found to be in need of spectacles? A response from the Ministries mentioned would be most welcomed.

Sincerely,

C. Persaud
