Kitty man remanded over 52 lbs ganja

A 22-year-old man was yesterday remanded to prison by Magistrate Clive Nurse after he pleaded not guilty to being in possession of some 52 pounds of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking.

The police in a release said that Nicholas Whyte, 22, of Lot 1 B Shell Road, Kitty, Georgetown was arrested on Saturday with the illicit drug.

According to the police, on April 13 at about 10 pm, ranks acting on information, intercepted one white Premio motor car bearing registration # PAC 4402, which was being driven by Whyte, at Ramp Road Ruimveldt, Georgetown.

A search was conducted on the vehicle and ranks found a brown salt bag, with 15 bulky parcels containing leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis wrapped with transparent plastic. He was cautioned and arrested.

Whyte will return to court on June 30th.
