Seventeen GDF ranks training to become medical assistants

Seventeen ranks of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) have commenced the Grade Three Medical Assistants Course.

A release from the GDF said that the course began on February 26, 2024, at Medical Corps Headquarters, Base Camp Ayanganna and spans 28 weeks. It aims to prepare participants to serve as Grade 3 Medical Assistants across various medical centres in the Force.

During the opening ceremony, Lt. Col. Matthew Chichester highlighted the critical role of field medics. He encouraged the students to fully engage with the comprehensive course content to become efficient medics in the Guyana Defence Force. The course content includes physiology, field sanitisation, lifesaving practices, first aid, and physiotherapy. This training will also be complemented by an attachment to Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.
