Over 250 exhibitors were facilitated at the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security’s “We Lift 4” women-owned business exhibition at the National Aquatic Centre on Saturday and yesterday.

The fourth edition of “We Lift” was hosted under the theme ‘shop network support’. The exhibition saw entrepreneurs specialised in food, hair care products, skin care products, clothing, jewellery and services. The exhibition also catered for educational and financial institutions that are collaborating with the ministry to promote women’s development.

Nations Inc aids in planning training programmes organised by the ministry including care for the elderly, social media marketing, photography, child care, and graphic design among others.

Demerara Bank Limited highlighted productive discussions with other organisations and the ministry helped them to understand that financing is an ultimate challenge. Pravini Romator, Chief Marketing Manager explained that the Demerara Bank’s Women in Wealth comprehensive package was developed to target the lack of finances for empowerment and by extension women suffering from domestic violence.

Shimane Sam, founder of Nails by Shimane, has broadened her horizons and in making hair products to meet the needs of customers. In an interview with Stabroek News, Sam explained that she started out as a nail technician. However, as her passion for healthy hair grew, she  longed to have manageable hair. Sam’s goal was to eliminate the myth that people could not have healthy relaxed hair. Her products promote healthy relaxed hair, but can also be added to one’s natural hair routine. It also assists clients with polycystic ovarian syndrome and alopecia.

“There is a myth that as long as you relax your hair it doesn’t grow and it breaks and it remains thin. So, we are here to put that myth to rest. Your relaxed hair can grow, it can have length retention and also stay healthy,” Sam reiterated.
