Holly Monderson, a 51-year-old clothes vendor of  Lot 9 Norton Street, Lacy-town, Georgetown, was robbed and beaten on Tuesday night at her camp located at Issano Landing, Middle Mazaruni, where she operates her business.

Inquiries revealed that on the date in question, Monderson was standing outside of her camp when the suspect approached and made a proposition which she refused. This apparently angered the suspect who proceeded to assault Monderson, leaving her with lacerations to her face and body.

The matter was reported to the police and the victim was escorted to the Issano Health Centre where she was seen by a doctor. She was later referred to the Bartica Hospital for further medical treatment.

The suspect was subsequently arrested and is in custody.

Monderson’s daughter, Adana Althea, told the Sunday Stabroek that someone who lives in the area discovered her mother lying unconscious in her camp Wednesday morning. The person decided to go looking for the woman after calling for her and getting no response. The police were summoned to the scene and soon after a suspect was arrested and is slated to appear in court on Monday. Althea disclosed that her mother was robbed of an undisclosed amount of cash and seven pennyweight of raw gold. She said that her mother normally sells clothes and looks over her gold mining claims.

According to Althea, so far she is unable to say what kind of injuries her mother sustained. How-ever, what she can say is that her mother sustained multiple blows to her head. She disclosed that the family has been insisting since Thursday that her mother be transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH). Her mother was finally transferred to GPH by another doctor yesterday to have her injuries assessed.

Althea relayed that on Tuesday morning, she received a call from her mother, who told her that she will be sending out something from the interior for her. On Wednesday she tried messaging her mother but didn’t get through to her. She noted that it was unlike her mother not to message her back, since they both normally message each other on a daily basis. The daughter said that when there was still no message from her mother on Thursday, she decided to call somebody she knows in the area, and she was told her mother had been beaten and robbed.
