Miner charged with wounding businesswoman at Issano Landing

Twenty-eight-year-old Roy John, a miner of Friendship Village, Pomeroon River, appeared on Monday at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Teriq Mohamed to answer the charge of wounding clothes vendor Holly Monderson.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge and was remanded to prison. The matter was adjourned to May 20 2024.

The April 28th Sunday Stabroek reported that Monderson was robbed and beaten at her camp located at Issano Landing, Middle Mazaruni, where she operates her business.

Inquiries revealed that on the date in question, Monderson was standing outside of her camp when the suspect approached and made a proposition which she refused. This apparently angered the suspect who proceeded to assault Monderson, leaving her with lacerations to her face and body.

The matter was reported to the police and the complainant was escorted to the Issano Health Centre where she was seen by a doctor. She was later referred to the Bartica Hospital for further medical treatment.
