The police yesterday assisted in freeing a young whale that became marooned on the No.63 Beach.

Help was summoned, and Assistant Superintendent Lajit, along with other members of the Guyana Police Force, residents of the nearby community, and wildlife experts sprung into action.

Dr. Sampat, a veterinarian, examined the mammal and found minor injuries but nothing life threatening. Rajbani Gajnabi of No. 66 Fisheries provided two boats, which were commanded by Captain Saleem Azeez, and used to guide the calf safely back into deep waters.

Captain Azeez was assisted by Monesh Mahadeo, Teddy Rafael, Woman Constable Paul, Constable Reynolds, and Rural Constable Shafeek.
