Prime Minister Mark Phillips yesterday reiterated the Government’s commitment to providing reliable energy to the country through a diverse energy matrix.

Phillips made the pledge during his remarks at the Parliamentary Sectoral Committee on Economic Services meeting on power generation and capacity within the energy sector.  The committee had invited the PM to address it on the power situation in the country.

A release from the Office of the Prime Minister said that he also spoke about the Gas-to-Energy project, which is expected to add 300 megawatts of capacity by 2025 and assured that electricity tariffs from the utility company would not increase, which will shield Guyanese from additional financial burdens.

The Prime Minister was accompanied by a technical team including the Chief Executive Officer of the Guyana Energy Agency, Dr Mahender Sharma; Guyana Power and Light’s (GPL’s) Chief Executive Officer, Kesh Nandlall; Permanent Secretary of the Office of the Prime Minister, Alfred King; and CEO of the Hinterland Electrification Co. Inc. in the Ministry of Public Infrastructure,  Horace Williams.
