Prime Minister Mark Phillips yesterday received a donation of flood relief equipment from the Chinese Government through its Embassy in Guyana.

A release yesterday from the Office of the Prime Minister said that the donation, which will be utilised by the Civil Defence Commission (CDC), included two Aurora 950 amphibious vehicles equipped for search and rescue. The vehicles were provided by Encore Power Inc.

The Prime Minister also received four mercury outboard engines, which were provided by Farm Supplies Limited, and four 14-foot marine super-wide jon boats supplied by SEBCO/Automotive Art.

“On behalf of the Government of Guyana, let me thank the government and people of China for once again delivering to the needs of the Guyanese people. We continue to benefit from this relationship between the People’s Republic of China and the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, whether it be medical, infrastructure development, training, capacity building, and here in improving our disaster management capability,” the Prime Minister said.

Phillips  also highlighted China’s role in strengthening Guyana’s disaster preparedness in the face of climate change.

He noted, too, that the donations are timely, assuring that the equipment will be utilised efficiently and will put the CDC in a better position to carry out its mandate in bringing relief to the people of Guyana during times of disaster.
