Police hope to complete $600M ministry probe soon

Detectives are hoping to soon wrap up additional investigations into the disappearance of $600 million from the former Ministry of Public Service as requested by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum said on Thursday.

John Lewis styles donates $1m to charities

John Lewis Styles celebrated its 12th Anniversary on October 10th 2015 by donating a total of $1m to seven charities, a release from the company said on Friday.

Rawlyn Crum-Ewing remains hospitalized as doctors are awaiting a puncture on his heart to heal after he underwent surgery for stab wounds he sustained during an attack on Thursday night.

Styrofoam out from January 1

Styrofoam will be banned from January 1, 2016. A Ministry of the Presidency statement follows: The Government of Guyana, in its thrust to promote a green economy and environment is moving ahead with plans to ban the importation and use of closed-cell extruded polystyrene foam, popularly known by the trade mark brand, Styrofoam, as of January 1, 2016.

Bath man shot in robbery

At about 0130h. today, the police say that Umgrie Parmanand, 55 years, of Bath, WCB, was aroused by the sound of persons in his home.

Huntley man dies in road accident

At about 2000h. last night, the police say that Richard Watson, 30 years, of Huntley, Mahaicony, ECD, attempted to cross the roadway at Huntley during which he was struck down by a motor vehicle.

Granger backs pay hikes for ministers

President David Granger has defended the recent salary hikes for his ministers, which range as high as 50% for those in Cabinet, calling the move an investment in quality governance.
