Ramson sworn in as Commissioner of Information

Former Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs, retired Justice of Appeal, Charles Ramson took the oath before President Donald Ramotar on Monday as Commissioner of Information, a position he described as a “clearing house for all information requested for by members of the public.”

No bids for Region Nine roads

The contract for the construction of an asphaltic road to Lethem and upgrading of the Massara Access Road also in Region 9 will be retendered as yesterday when bid submissions were to be opened at the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board no one had submitted a tender.

Scrap dealer charged with stealing batteries

Scrap metal dealer Ricardo Fernandes accused of stealing two truck batteries and who claimed he was sorely beaten for the offence he has no knowledge of, was yesterday granted $50, 000 bail when the matter was heard in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

GPL says 37,000 to see less outages after Sunday works

GPL says that 37,000 consumers in Demerara, particularly in Georgetown, will see a significant decrease in blackouts as well as shorter periods of outages dues to “extensive infrastructural work conducted at the Sophia 69 kv Substation” last Sunday.

ASL plane crashes at Matthews Ridge

An Air Services Limited (ASL) aircraft crashed into thick vegetation about a mile from the airstrip at Matthews Ridge, North West District, Region One yesterday morning and Minister of Transport Robeson Benn said bad weather appears to have been a factor.

Guyhoc Park resident shot dead after gunmen invade shop

Armed bandits invaded a shop in Guyhoc Park last evening with the intention to rob but abandoned their plan and discharged rounds after customers began pelting them with bottles; in the end a 37-year-old man was killed and a suspected bandit shot and wounded.
