New Parliament to be convened June 10th

President of Guyana, David Granger, has officially proclaimed that the 11th Parliament will convene at 14:00hrs on Wednesday, 10th June, 2015 at the Parliament Chamber, Public Buildings, Georgetown, a release from Parliament Office said this afternoon.

Man held after Uzi sub-machine gun found

At about 1030h. today, the police say that they conducted a search on a house at East Ruimveldt, Georgetown, during which an Uzi sub-machine gun with 14 matching rounds and a .38 special revolver with 6 rounds were found in addition to 482 grams of marijuana.

Couple slain in Tain home

The discovery of two bodies in a home at Tain, Corentyne, Berbice, first suspected to be the result of a murder/suicide is now being treated as a double murder and a suspect is currently in custody.

-Regional Executive Officers likely to be replaced   Former Chief Election Officer Gocool Boodoo earned close to half a million dollars per month as a consultant for the Ministry of Local Government but has since resigned his position according to new Minister of Communities, Ronald Bulkan who said he is unclear as to what services were provided by Boodoo.

Election results for gazetting

The Guyana Elections Commission will be gazetting the 2015 General and Regional Election results along with the list of Parliamentarians provided by the APNU+AFC governing coalition this week with or without the submission of the opposition’s list.

House lot sales to be phased out – Scott

Junior Communities Minister Keith Scott, who has responsibility for housing, plans to move housing development in the country from the sale of house lots to the sale of turn-key homes in communities that are outfitted with basic services, such as schools and police stations.
