Letters to the Editor

Those who struggled for the Skeldon sugar factory must feel betrayed

Dear Editor, All those who have struggled consistently for the modernisation of the Skeldon sugar factory must certainly now feel a great sense of betrayal that finally the Chinese will manage the factory without the consultation of the main union Guyana Agricultural and General Workers‘ Union (GAWU).

A straw-man?

Dear Editor, Mr Louis Kilkenny (‘Why is Henry Jeffrey criticizing what he helped to create?‘

No excuses

Dear Editor, Firstly, let me say how encouraged I am by the performances of the Guyanese runners this year in Track and Field.

Africans’ under-achievement in business was a consequence of the Guyanese socio-economic and political structure

Dear Editor, I unreservedly challenge, especially for the benefit of the young Afrikan mind, the stereotypes that (a) Afrikans are not motivated about acquiring wealth preferring to go after education; and (b) that we are lacking in the knowledge of commerce and entrepreneurship, as appears in a letter in the Stabroek News of August 23 (‘Did ACDA engage African Guyanese in the diaspora…‘).
