Letters to the Editor

No excuses

Dear Editor, Firstly, let me say how encouraged I am by the performances of the Guyanese runners this year in Track and Field.

Africans’ under-achievement in business was a consequence of the Guyanese socio-economic and political structure

Dear Editor, I unreservedly challenge, especially for the benefit of the young Afrikan mind, the stereotypes that (a) Afrikans are not motivated about acquiring wealth preferring to go after education; and (b) that we are lacking in the knowledge of commerce and entrepreneurship, as appears in a letter in the Stabroek News of August 23 (‘Did ACDA engage African Guyanese in the diaspora…‘).

‘Why no invitation?’

Dear Editor, On Wednesday August 17, 2011, the Upper Corentyne Chamber of Commerce Industry (UCCCI) received a grant of $28 000 from USAID to curb underage sexual activity with a portion of it to be used on the development of No 63 beach.

‘Not just a finger’

Dear Editor, An unfortunate incident occurred a few days when it was alleged that a youngster gesticulated offensively towards the presidential motorcade.

Still no regular electricity in Lethem

Dear Editor, September marks the fourth month since the Lethem Power Company (LPC) decided to institute a reduced electricity supply to Lethem and its environs on the grounds that it was difficult to get a reliable supply of fuel for its generator due to the rainy season and the deteriorating GT-Lethem road.

Not a book launch

Dear Editor, Limited as my exposure has been to Clem Seecharan’s authorship, ie, to Sweetening Bitter Sugar, I have been an admirer of his scholarship.

Class football

Dear Editor, It is now known to all that football in Guyana is now class in the absence of Klass.

No Guyana Embassy in Haiti

Dear Editor, Thank you for your letter dated August 23, 2011 seeking my response to a letter from Mr Mark Jacobs published in your newspaper on August 14, 2011, in relation to whether Guyana has a Consulate or Embassy in Haiti.
