It is not at all surprising that the nation has not immersed itself in oceans of shock and awe following last week’s two reported vigilante killings. 

The Oliver Tambo award is about the internal politics of South Africa at a particular point in its history

Dear Editor, As a Guyanese national who has been involved at the Cabinet level in the adoption of the country’s foreign policy decisions, and as someone with a longstanding and profound admiration for Nelson Mandela and for the South Africa that he has bequeathed, I feel an abundant concern at the decision to defer the grant of the posthumous offer of the Oliver Tambo Award to the late Forbes Burnham.

The President’s rejection of the two bills

President Ramotar’s decision to reject two bills which were passed by Parliament on the strength of the opposition’s one-seat majority on the grounds that they were unconstitutional will further deepen the political divide in the country and make it even more difficult for mature compromise between the two sides.
