Dear Editor, Please allow me to give my sympathy to the family and friends of the late Karen Badal, who passed away at the Georgetown Public Hospital after a doctor performed a botched and illegal abortion at his residence. 

Indications by the new Governments of St Lucia and Jamaica that efforts will be made to have their countries join the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) will have once again raised popular hopes that our governments are willing to implement the commitments that they make – even if belatedly.

Dear Editor, In a letter captioned ‘The election results provide a great opportunity for the parties to work together in the national interest‘ in the Stabroek News of December 30, 2011, I wrote, “For APNU, Mr Granger (Leader of APNU) needs to quickly assert his leadership and keep his members in line.”

Dear Editor, In an article in the Stabroek News dated Friday, December 30, 2011 and captioned ‘Granger says Nagamootoo not the best person for Speaker,’ Mr Granger stated his reason for not wanting Moses.

Dear Editor, The selection of a speaker is taking longer than we would have thought which is due to a combination of factors that are a characteristic feature of Guyanese politics.
