Miner chopped at Honey Camp

A 53-year-old miner is due for surgery today at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) after he was chopped in the face last Thursday night following an argument he had with a fellow miner that morning.
Tyron Jones, originally of Agricola, told this newspaper that on Thursday morning he had argued with a man who worked along with him at Honey Camp, Mazaruni River. Jones recalled that he went to the shop that night and had stuck his cutlass in the ground.

“Like that is when he realize he get the upper hand to do me something,” the miner said. “He chop me across the face and my nose get chop as well.”
According to Jones, he was not transported to the Bartica Hospital until Friday morning because no transportation was available. He was transferred to the GPH on Saturday.

When Stabroek News visited Jones at the hospital yesterday afternoon his face was heavily bandaged but he was in a stable condition. He said that he was chopped across the left side of his face. While the man does not know whether his eye was damaged he said that his nose had to be stitched.
Jones told this newspaper that the culprit has not yet been arrested by the police. “I know I can’t dead so easy …and I know I had to reach here [the hospital]”.
