Young Warriors constructing pavilion

The Young Warriors Cricket Club in East Canje, Berbice is at present constructing a pavilion at its home ground at Cumberland, East Canje.

The pavilion which will be equipped with two dressing rooms and a conference hall, measuring some 40ft x 30 ft with a 40ft x 20 ft extension for seating accommodation, has received some generous donations from members of the public and the government which donated $1M.

However the programme has hit a snag due to the shortage of funds and the club is appealing to  other members of the public to come forward and assist in enabling the completion of this worthy and timely venture.

The club which was formed some eight years ago is now one of the leading clubs in Guyana with a number of national titles to its  credit.

The highpoint so far of the organization is being crowned Club of the Year by the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) for the period 2002-2003 and winning the 2007 national 20/20 cricket competition.
The club has about 70 members, with 35 being under the age of 15. It follows  a daily training schedule which takes place at the ground. The club has so far produced a number of national players including former national captain and all rounder Damodar Daesrath and Gajanand Singh, former national under-19 players in Kwesi Maltay, Richard Ramdeen, and Balram Samaroo, among others.

Former Berbice players Anil Beharry and Paul Wintz, former national player Hubern Evans and current  under-19 all rounder Seon Hetmyer are also members of the club.
