Vreed-en-Hoop phone shop robbed

Five employees of the Vreed-en-Hoop Cell Link King Phone Shop were attacked and robbed of over $300,000 cash and other valuables by three men, one of whom was armed with a gun, on Saturday afternoon.

Police in a press statement last evening said the robbery occurred at approximately 6.15 pm.
According to them, investigations revealed that 20-year-old salesman Ameer Ahmad of Goed Fortuin and four female employees were in the process of closing the store when three men entered the building.

The attacker who had the firearm in his possession, police said, ordered the victims to lie on the floor.  While his colleagues searched and carted off $366,000 in cash,  jewellery of the employees, an undisclosed number of cell phones, MP3 Players and digital cameras, the gunman stood guard.

Ahmad, the police stated, reported the incident to the Vreed-en-Hoop Police Station.
The policeman who took the report immediately sought the assistance of other ranks.
However, he only managed to locate a Traffic Sergeant who was off duty and a female rank.
A search was subsequently launched by the police based on information received about the description of the perpetrators. Contact was also made with other police stations, mobile patrols and the Demerara Harbour Bridge in an extended effort to apprehend the men. However they managed to escape.
