PUC urges public to report vandalism of GT&T wires

The Public Utilities Commission (PUC) is concerned about the recent acts of vandalism done to the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company’s infrastructure and urges the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity.

In a press release, the PUC said thieves seemed to have targeted the company’s insulated copper cable, which is used to provide landline services, resulting in the disruption of service. Reports suggest that these acts of vandalism may be occurring daily, thereby incurring unnecessary expenses to the company to repair and replace the copper.

In addition to financial losses to the company, the deployment of human resources to remedy and address these issues can impact negatively on other services offered by the company and may potentially delay other infrastructural works it has planned.

The PUC urges the perpetrators to desist and further advises consumers to be watchful for this type of crime.
