People are less dependent on the print and electronic media for information

Dear Editor,

We are living in exciting times. It is amazing how information and communication technology has impacted on our lives. This has given rise to what is now known as the social media where people can reach out to peoples from all across the world with the click of a button.

People are getting to know each other through facebook where views are exchanged and opinions on issues shared in a way not hitherto possible.

This development has radically changed the way we communicate and obtain knowledge. Indeed we are now witnessing a technological revolution which brings tons of information on any given subject at the mere click of a button,

The point I am seeking to make is that people generally are much more informed on any issue and are less dependent on traditional media sources such as the print and electronic media for information. This is especially true of the younger generation who have adapted to the new technology.

More significantly, the technology is diffusing so rapidly that technologically the concept of developing and developed world is losing its relevance where information and communication technology is concerned.

Yours faithfully,
Hydar Ally
