Linden man fined, two others on bail over ganja

Two Linden men were yesterday released on $15,000 bail each, while another was fined the same amount after they appeared in a Georgetown court charged with possession of cannabis.

Troy Sealey, 35 and Dunstan Noel, 33 pleaded not guilty, while Dexter Bristol, 29, pleaded guilty to a charge which stated that they had three grammes of cannabis in their possession on December 5.

The police’s case is that about 5:40am, acting on information received, officers swooped down on the home of Sealey at Silvertown, Wismar, Linden, where they conducted a search on the premises in the presence of the three men. The court heard from Prosecutor Deniro Jones that the cannabis was found concealed in a transparent Ziploc bag under a cushion of a chair.

He said they all denied knowledge of the drugs at the time.

The two defendants who pleaded not guilty were placed on $15,000 bail each, while Bristol was fined $15,000 and ordered to perform four weeks of community service at the Wismar Police Station, or, in default, he will be imprisoned for six months.

Sealey and Noel will make their next court appearance at the Linden Magistrate’s Court on December 10.
