Boosted by half centuries from West Indies Under-19 players Shimron Hetmyer and Tagenarine Chanderpaul, Guyana ended in the comfortable position of 228-5 against Trinidad and Tobago in its decisive final round match of the West Indies Cricket Board Regional (WICB) Under-19 tournament yesterday at the Georgetown Cricket Club ground, Bourda.

Hetmyer struck 63 from 80 balls while Chanderpaul scored a patient, unbeaten innings of 79 from 289 deliveries.

Hetmyer batted aggressively dominating an 88-run, opening partnership between himself and Chanderpaul, who was content to play the supporting role. Hetmyer, who was dropped on 40 by the wicketkeeper off Justin Joseph’s bowling, brought up his 50 with a sweep shot off leg spinner Jessie Bootan that raced to the boundary for four. In that same over where Hetmyer reached his milestone he also scored 10 runs off Bootan, who was bowling most of his deliveries on the line or outside the leg stump.
