Griffith calls for more consistency from batsmen

Rayon Griffith, the Guyana Jaguars assistant coach wants more consistency from his in-form batsmen who he believes will click as a unit during their final three matches of the 2015 Professional Cricket League (PCL) four-day tournament, beginning with this week’s clash against Jamaica.

“The batting at times has been good but we haven’t been getting a good flow from the side’s top and middle. If they click I know we can get another big score because the lower-order batsmen have been doing a fairly good job as well,” said the ex-National fast bowler yesterday when contacted by Stabroek Sports. Apart from the batters who are good but have not been on par with the sublime bowlers, Griffith still described the team as balanced and organized.

“Basically we still have to show more improvement in the fielding department, our bowling has been decent and the fast bowlers have been good during the last three matches, they put their hands up in the past few games especially against Jamaica where Ronsford Beaton and young Keon Joseph bowled in the right areas. Our spinners have been consistent whole tournament, so I just hope all the bowlers continues doing what they were doing.”

A few rounds ago the Jaguars hammered the Jamaicans by 105 runs at Sabina Park, and the now the team will look to prey on the out-of-sorts Jamaican on home soil at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence come this Friday.

“We will continue to play good cricket. We want our bowlers to focus and do the job they were doing, because that is our strength and like I said if the batsmen could click and everyone could come out we will get a big score.”

Griffith praised the team’s performance in the previous game against Barbados where the team recorded a come-from-behind win.

“Everybody performed well during the last three games all the guys did well for their country and team.”

The Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Chairman of National Selectors also confirmed that local franchise Cricket Guyana Inc. (CGI) has scheduled a few training sessions for the Jaguars prior to Friday’s match, with the dates and itinerary expected to be released shortly.
