Letters to the Editor

APNU came to meeting not Ministry of Housing officials

Dear Editor,       On September 20, 2013 I received telephone calls from some of the residents who are house-lot owners of Five Miles, Bartica who had been advised by two ministry officials on August 30 that they were to be relocated from this housing scheme since the land was eroding and as such was not suitable to build on.

Time to start working together

Dear Editor, It was indeed refreshing to see the call by Sean McLean in his recent letter in your columns for a compromise between the government and opposition for the sake of progress in Guyana.

Dealers should make provision for Halaal meats

Dear Editor, We have noticed the recent establishments being opened and identified as fast food entities but are very concerned from the viewpoint of an Islamic way of life with the beef, mutton and chicken being served to Muslims who unknowingly buy and eat these meats which are not wholesome, Halaal.

Circular reasoning

Dear Editor, Let us try to straighten out this rigmarole. The President says he cannot assent to the Bills unless the AG issues an assent certificate.

Security firm paying less than the minimum wage

Dear Editor, I refer to Mr Mohamed Akeel’s letter in the Stabroek News of September 20, 2013 ‘It seems as if total confusion surrounds the National Minimum Wage Order’ which suggests that the matter may not be entirely and satisfactorily resolved.

The Linden Commissioners missed an opportunity

Dear Editor, In a previous letter published in your newspaper on the matter of the tragic occurrences at Linden in which three unarmed protesting members of the public lost their lives through the actions of members of the disciplined services at the scene, I had expressed my expectation that the Commissioners collectively or individually, would express their opinion on the application of the doctrine of ministerial responsibility recognized within the jurisprudence of Commonwealth countries.

£800 not £800,000

Dear Editor, The management of the Dharm Shala at 140 King Edward Street, Albouystown wishes the public to note that contrary to what has been published, the UK donation made to the Dharm Shala on Thursday, September 19, 2013, on behalf of five UK-based cultural groups in celebration of the 175th Anniversary of the Arrival of Indians in Guyana, was for the sum of G$250,000 (two hundred and fifty thousand Guyana dollars), being the equivalent of £800 (eight hundred pounds sterling).

Was in no way responsible for Khemraj et al leaving AFC for APNU

Dear Editor, After many inquiries regarding a report in Demerara Waves of September 18 titled, ‘AFC members defect to APNU,’which stated, “Former soldier Malcolm Harripaul, who had long switched allegiance to the APNU, has been formally added to the list of defectors,” I write to clarify my position.
