Blockage in Lamaha Canal causing low water pressure

The Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) says a blockage in the Lamaha Canal is causing the low water pressure in the city.

In a press release the company said there is a significant blockage, consisting of weeds, within the Meadowbrook section of the canal which has resulted in a reduction in the amount of water at the Shelterbelt Water Treatment Plant. Therefore, communities supplied by the Shelterbelt will experience low water pressure. GWI said the East Demerara Water Conservancy Board has given assurances that the blockage will be removed shortly.

Further, the company said it has encountered a number of broken mains, due to construction work being done in preparation for the Cricket World Cup, which require the continuous attention of the leakage team. This means that the company’s ability to respond to reports of leaks and broken mains within the city has been curtailed. The GWI urges the public to be patient with them in this regard. At the same time customers are encouraged to report all such incidences to the company’s Customer Call Centre at telephone number 227-8701.
