Swimming outing turns fatal

Eighteen-year-old Kevon Washington had his life cut short on Sunday afternoon when he drowned at a mined out lake in Block 22, Wismar, Linden.

According to information reaching this newspaper, Washington was swimming with friends when he met his demise.

“Deh had some girls a lil way out in de water and he swim out fuh meet dem,” one eyewitness said. It was reported that Washington and the girls were swimming back to shore, but when they reached land they discovered that he was missing. They said they believed that he was diving and would have come up shortly after.

After a few minutes had passed and he did not surface, his friends realized that he was in trouble. Several of them swam to rescue him but their effort proved futile; their search went on until after 11 pm.

His body was discovered on Monday morning by one of his best friends.

Washington lived at Wisroc Housing Scheme with his mother.
