District Six reigns supreme in cycling

The riders of District Six (Corentyne) brought their talents to the National Park yesterday  and once again dominated their rivals, winning the cycling title at the 59th National Schools Athletics, Cycling and Swimming Championships.

The cyclists from the Ancient County tallied 288 points, 51 more than the nearest District after an exciting day of racing.

District 10 (Upper Demerara/Kwakwani) placed second with 237 points, followed by District 15 (New Amsterdam) on 150, District Seven (Bartica) on 148, and Districts 11 (North Georgetown) and 13 (South Georgetown) tied for fifth on 150 points.

Completing the points table were: District Three (West Demerara) on 70, District Five (West Coast Berbice) on 57, District 12 (East Georgetown) on 50, District 14 (East Bank Demerara) on 39, District Eight (Potaro Siparuni) on 36, District Four (East Coast Demerara) on 23 and District Two (Essequibo Coast/Pomeroon) on 21.

Under-14 Girls: Mary Lyken (District 10)

Under-14 Boys: Joshan Campbell (District Six)

Under-16 Girls: Rosheka Crawford (District Six)

Under-16 Boys: Mario Washington (District Six)

Open Girls: Alleia Alleyne (District 13)

Open Boys: Ajay Gopilall (District Six)

The National Schools Cycling, Swimming and Track and Field Championships continues today at the National Track and Field Centre at Leonora from 09:00hrs.
