Speeding motorcycle kills student on Corentyne highway

A 17-year-old technical institute student was struck down and killed on the Corentyne highway on Thursday night while on his way home from church.

Dead is Quacy McBean of Number 51 Village, Corentyne who was struck down by a speeding motorcycle and killed instantly on the Number 53 Public Road.

According to residents, the motorcycle, which had no lights, was heading towards Corriverton around 9 pm. McBean, they said, was on his way home from choir practice at church.

It appears he neither heard nor saw the speeding motorcycle which swerved from other persons on the road. McBean was a student at the newly opened Corriverton Technical Institute, his mother said.

The motorcyclist, who was also knocked unconscious, was taken to the New Amsterdam Hospital where he is currently under police guard.(Adrian Smith)
