Demerara makes light work of Essequibo

Essequibo cricketers were on the receiving end of yet another defeat on Saturday when they went under to Demerara by an innings and 33 runs as the first round of the Castrol inter-county, under-15, two-day cricket competition ended at the Georgetown Cricket Club Bourda ground.

Resuming on their overnight 159-4 with Delon Fernandes on 41and Kevin Singh on one, Demerara declared on 211-7.

Fernandes scored 82 before he was brilliantly caught by Kerron Mc Lennon off the bowling of Neal Ramalho who also removed Seon Daniels and Jagdesh Bishun to end with 5-29.

Singh was left not out after scoring a 35-ball 37 including three fours.

Facing a deficit of 120, Essequibo were off to a disastrous start losing opener Herrel Green without a run being scored.

Green was run out off the first ball of the second over and the team from the Cinderella County limped to lunch at 22-1.

Upon resumption, Demerara skipper Carlos La Rose bowling medium pace ripped through the top order picking up 3-14 from nine overs, while off-spinner Bishun grabbed 2-4 from eight overs as Essequibo crumbled to 87 all out.

Kerron Suenarine top scored with 18.

Essequibo will now play the powerful Berbice team today at the Police Sports complex at Eve Leary.

The Berbice team will come from: Harrinarine Chattergoon, Captain, Jamal LaFleur, Emran Latif, Travis Karim, Ramesh Naidoo, Jamal Odle, Khemraj Rampersaud, Mervin Basdeo, Gudakesh Moti, Yogeshwar Deonarine, Shane Sinclair, Rawl Johnson, Kevin Joseph, and Trinson Carmichael, Adrian Amsterdam is the coach and the manager is Vemen Walter.
