Businessmen robbed at Industry Chinese eatery

An armed robbery at a Chinese restaurant at Industry on Thursday has been linked to a gang believed to be behind a series of robberies around the city.

Police said two men armed with guns held up three men, including an off-duty policeman at the Ming Xing Restaurant at Industry, East Coast Demerara, around 4.45 pm on Thursday.

Shigeo lee, the Managing Direct or of South America Timber Inc, and Lennox De Abreu, who went to the restaurant to purchase food, are believed to have been the targets of the attack. The robbers entered the premises and held the men up at gun point, relieving them of articles, including personal documents and $40,000.

Police said the men had been following the company members about town and then to the restaurant. “The men are believed to be part of a gang involved in a few robberies around town,” the police said.

It was also revealed that while making their escape, the men also robbed an off-duty policemen who was in the restaurant at the time. He was relieved of $3,000, silver jewellery and a cellular phone. They escaped in a waiting car.

On Tuesday, Yun Sun Chen was fatally shot during a failed robbery bid at his restaurant at the junction of Hadfield Street and Louisa Row. Two men are said to have carried out the attack, but they did not get any money. Police have yet to hold anyone for the shooting. Chen subsequently died in hospital.
