A poor excuse for police failure to respond to calls

Dear Editor,

The reason given by ‘C’ Division Commander Mr Leroy Brumell, for the police non-response to a crime scene was pathetic.

Mr Brumell’s comment appeared in an article published in the November 19 edition of the Kaieteur News under the headline “Police non-response angers Lusignan resident.”

According to Brumell, the police have been duped by several prank calls, which have become frustrating to the hard-working policemen. Surely, this cannot be used as the excuse for the police’s failure to respond to a citizen’s call for help.

The police should have mechanisms in place to detect prank calls. This is yet another example of their lack of ideas.

The Commissioner should bring to task Mr Brumell for this comment. In addition, some arrangement should be made with the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GT&T) to have non-functioning lines repaired at the earliest possible time.

The telephone is needed in the fight against crime and the repairs should be done expeditiously.

Yours faithfully,

D Charles
