‘Going Great’ -Butts says W.I. U-19 team preparations going fine despite weather

“Preparations are going great despite the weather situation.”

Those were the words of Clyde Butts, former West Indies off spinner and now manager of the West Indies Under-19 team who are encamped in Guyana as part of their preparations for the upcoming Under-19 World Cup in Malaysia next year.

In an invited comment to Stabroek Sport at the National Stadium, Providence yesterday,Butts stated how pleased he was to be getting in some much needed pitch practice for the team.

“The weather has been on and off of late here in Guyana and when we came out to do some batting practice, the rain came and such had to be abandoned. We however took that time to get in some physical training for the guys and I must say how pleased I am at the results,” Butss, who is also a West Indies senior team selector said.

Butts further mentioned how determined this bunch of young cricketers are and described their efforts in everything they do regarding the encampment exercise.

“When called upon they all put in 110% in their efforts and their gelling as a team is also great. One must remember that these guys were together in the TCL Under-19 competition in St. Kitts and they also participated as a team in the recently held Regional KFC Cup.”

“Although we were not successful in the latter, the exposure and the experience gained would have served them well for the competition they are preparing for. Add to that, there are Reon King and Colin Stuart, two former Guyana and West Indies fast bowlers, assisting with the camp, with King playing an integral part as coach at the moment in the absence of the team coach,” Butts further stated.

A practice game in the form of a simulation exercise will be held tomorrow and Sunday at the National Stadium, Providence.
