Surely the officers could have issued a warning to the vendor

Dear Editor,

I couldn’t help myself laughing as I read your piece: Newspaper vendors to be charged today with obstructing traffic.

Mind you, I didn’t find the plight of the vendors amusing… not for one minute. In particular, I sympathise with the vendor James. I’ve bought newspapers many a morning from him when I resided in the area. Surely the officers could have first issued a warning to the vendors!

What amused me was the last sentence of the article. I would certainly think the article would have lost nothing by its omission. Surely Stabroek News did not intend to insinuate that a) had the vendors not been selling Stabroek News they would not have been charged, or b) this amounts to an attack on press freedom… in particular Stabroek News’ press freedom.

As a reader of your newspaper (and mind you, only your newspaper), I believe you can avoid these minor petty protests. There are more important issues on your plate to tackle.

Yours faithfully,
