The rank on duty did not have change

Dear Editor,

I refer to a letter captioned “Cashier at certifying office offered no change for payments made” by Richard de Nobrega.

The Guyana Police Force wishes to firstly clarify that monies for learner-driver packages are not collected at the Traffic Certifying Office at Brickdam as stated in the article. This is done at another office in the station compound.

Though admittedly the incident referred to by the writer did occur, the facts have been distorted.

At the time of payment being made by Richard de Nobrega for a learner-driver package, the rank on duty as the cashier was not in possession of the required change and requested that he wait a while until the necessary change could have been obtained from among other persons who were there to conduct similar transactions. This apparently did not meet with de Nobrega’s satisfaction and the matter was only resolved when, upon recognizing what was the problem, a person further down in the queue stepped forward with monies from which the required change was made possible.

Yours faithfully,
