Teens remanded over rape of 44-year-old woman

Four teenagers accused of gang raping a 44-year-old woman shortly after breaking into her Essequibo home, were yesterday remanded to prison by Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle.

Keiron Jaikarran of Danielstown, Essequibo Coast and Reshane Singh called `Boy’ of Lima Housing Scheme, Essequibo Coast, both 17, Davenan Alphonso called `Pops’, 19, also of Lima Housing Scheme and a 16-year-old boy were not required to plead to the indictable charge when they appeared in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

The four who all said they had nothing to say to the court were expressionless during the proceedings, but towards the end of the case one of them let out a laugh.

It is alleged that the quartet committed the act on the woman last Thursday.

Reports are that the woman resides with her one-year-old son and around 10 pm on the day in question, she retired to bed. The defendants, reports indicate, pushed down the woman’s door, entered the home and committed the act.

The four fled the scene leaving their slippers and bicycles behind. A report was made and based on the information received the teens were arrested and later charged.

The matter continues on January 30 at the Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court.
