Private sector says barbaric killings openly challenges security of the State

The Private Sector Commission (PSC) in joining with the nation in condemning the barbaric act of the killings of 11 persons at Lusignan, including five children, says this constitutes “an open challenge by organized criminals to the authority of the State to maintain the rule of law”.

The PSC pointed out in a press release yesterday that while the focus of the national concern and attention is now on the anguish of the innocent families who have been made the victims of this mindless and depraved behaviour, “it has become obvious that the very fabric and stability of the entire nation, manifested by the widespread display of public anger and protests, is under threat.”

The Commission asserted that it is the government, in consultation with and fully supported by the parliamentary opposition, who must take responsibility and be held accountable for national security and the nation’s well-being. “This is not a time for political blame calling and partisan behaviour,” the PSC added.

Against that background, the PSC is appealing to the country’s politicians, the media and every citizen “to refrain from resorting to, facilitating or indulging in any rhetoric or action which could further exacerbate an already volatile and inflammable situation.”

Moreover, the private sector body is also urging every citizen, each of whom also has an individual responsibility to provide assistance and support to the security forces in upholding the law and combating crime, to come forward with any information that they may have which can lead to the capture and conviction of the brutal criminals. The commission, while offering its deepest sympathy to the families and relatives who have suffered so grievously from the vicious attack, pledged to do everything within its power to work closely with all of the relevant authorities and civic organizations to assist in restoring order and bringing the criminals to justice.
