Moves afoot to revive American football

Today’s Super Bowl event will be used to revive the sport of American football in Guyana.

Organiser and founder of the Guyana Gators Football Club, Michael Whitehead, is requesting all former players of the team as well as interested persons to convene at the Water Chris Hotel from 4pm today.

According to Whitehead, former as well as prospective players would have an opportunity to view Super Bowl XLII on a widescreen television free at the hotel while reminiscing on their own experiences playing locally.

Whitehead said that he had been urged from a few sponsors and coaches of three other Caribbean territories to get the team back into training since a few regional tournaments were proposed for this year.

Whitehead added that although most of the players had not played in just over a year, it was his hope that the occasion would bring out all the members of the Gators as well as potentially players.

“Well most of the guys have not played in a while and the occasion is to basically to get all of them back together so that we can get them out on the field some time soon.”

“We also urge all young, interested players to come and register because we are looking for new talent,” he said.

Anyone desiring of more information can contact coach Whitehead on 667-4863 or players representative Ovid Austin on 231-5862.
