Sealey questions “unanimous” ban of GDF football team

Lester Sealey, assistant secretary/treasurer of the Georgetown Football Association (GFA) said yesterday that in his opinion the decision to ban the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) football team from participating in the Premium Beer Cup tournament was not a unanimous one.

“I am questioning the choice of words as it relates to the decision being unanimous,” Sealey told Stabroek Sport yesterday.

The honorary secretary of the GFA, Marlan Cole, had told this newspaper that the executive committee had “agreed unanimously” to suspend the GDF football team after an on field incident involving a rank of the GDF who it was alleged had been previously banned by the GFA.

Sealey said seven persons had voted at the meeting of the GFA on Wednesday when the decision was taken to ban the GDF football team.

According to Sealey, four persons voted for the team to be banned while three persons voted against the team being banned.

“I don’t know that 4-3 represents a unanimous decision,” Sealey said yesterday.

“The mere idea that there are dissenting views over the decision simply means that the word unanimous cannot be construed to be reflective of the collective will of the voters,” Sealey argued.

Those present at the emergency executive meeting should clear up any misconception that the GFA executive unanimously agreed to ban the GDF team.
