Parika churches pray for relatives of massacre victims

Parika churches held an “open air” prayer meeting on Monday evening to support the relatives and friends of victims of the Lusignan and Bartica massacres.

In a press release the Region Three Administration said more than 100 persons braved the weather to attend the meeting. The group came with placards inscribed with verses from the Holy Bible and sang hymns as they marched from the Parika sluice to the Two Brothers Restaurant. After congregating on the roadway opposite the restaurant, a minute of silence was observed in honour of the victims.

Several pastors prayed for the victims’ families, the Joint Services, the government and the nation. A special prayer was also offered for the criminals to be brought to justice. In a plea for unity, Reverend Motie Singh who convened the meeting said the nation must unite to face the challenges ahead.

He added that the Parika Pastor Fellowship offers “hope in despair, light in darkness and life in death” and that he was confident that justice would prevail.
