Two soldiers hurt in East Coast accident

Two members of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) were yesterday admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) after a GDF vehicle transporting approximately nine soldiers turned over while travelling along the East Coast Demerara (ECD) public road.

The circumstances surrounding the accident are still unknown, however, this newspaper understands that Kevin Washington, one of the injured soldiers, was admitted to the GPHC Ward A2 at some time around noon and was subsequently discharged a few hours later.

However, Kenny Valet, the soldier who suffered a broken leg underwent surgery yesterday.

Less than one month ago a speeding army patrol vehicle slammed into a car, sending soldiers and their weapons crashing to the road.

The pick-up toppled thrice upon impact on the East Coast Highway just off the Ogle airstrip road and later left other members of the GDF scouring the surrounding parapets for their weapons and ammunition.
