Scrutineers have a difficult job

Dear Editor,

A few nights ago, one of the major television stations aired a news item comprising a group of scrutineers, who claimed that they had been underpaid.

The task of a scrutineer is a tedious one and is not for the faint hearted, especially in a racially polarized society like ours. They are subjected to invective, threats, and abuses of the most demeaning nature; the weather plays its part in further demoralising them; however they stick to their tasks.

They are unique and should be paid the sums of money they had been promised. I was however alarmed at the anger and hatred displayed by one of the scrutineers, and the accusations she made. Some of her utterances were uncalled for, and should have been edited before public viewing; she has done some damage to her party. Her further involvement in that exercise should be seriously reviewed.

The hatred emanating from her and so vividly captured on camera, was reminiscent of the expressions displayed on the faces of the prime movers behind Rwanda, Kosovo and Darfur.

Yours faithfully,

C.S. Vaughn, MSM
