West Dem man remanded on gun charges

A West Demerara man was remanded on charges of unlawful possession of firearm and ammunition when he appeared before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton yesterday.

Cordel Duncan allegedly had in his possession one .32 Taurus Magnum revolver and one .45 Astro semi-automatic pistol, along with one .32 live round and one .45 live round. He was reportedly caught with the items on March 13 at Goed Fortuin, West Coast Demerara. The man was represented by attorney-at-law Nigel Hughes who made an application for bail. However the prosecution objected.

The matter was transferred to the Wales Magistrate’s Court and continues on April 17.
