Pouderoyen captures West Side Cup

A hat-trick from Clement Browne propelled Pouderoyen to a 4-0 victory over Young Achievers in the final of the West Demerara Football Association’s West Side Cup tournament at the Den Amstel ground, West Demerara on Friday.

Browne opened his account as early as the third minute but he had to wait another 34 minutes before he got his second goal.

Four minutes into the second half Browne had secured his hat-trick and the reigning West Demerara club champions put the icing on the cake when Garfield Todd scored in the 65th minute.

In the third-place play-off Stewartville triumphed without breaking a sweat as opponents Den Amstel failed to put in an appearance.

At the presentation ceremony which followed, Pouderoyen pocketed the winner’s cheque of $50,000 and a trophy while the runners-up were rewarded with $25,000 and a trophy.

Stewartville too received a trophy along with $15,000.

Browne emerged as the tournament’s leading goalscorer with eight goals while Severn Austin was adjudged the best defender.

Marvin Griffith copped the best goalkeeper award while Jason Critchlow was voted the best midfielder.

All the individual awardees received trophies which were presented by executives of the WDFA.
