No tendering and no transparency in these purchases

Dear Editor,
I know a thing or two about helicopters but US$750,000 (G$150M) for a used, 20-year-old heli-copter with 10,000 flying hours beats all. What a scandal !
Respected Captain Gerry Gouveia, claiming he was not consulted, says it is a piece of “junk.” The President, who knows absolutely nothing about helicopters, rebutted by calling Gouveia “silly.”

Presidential Secretariat head, Dr Roger Luncheon says “look for the results” when questioned about the ‘copters.

Another helicopter for US$750,000 is coming from Texas. All indications point to another piece of junk flying our way. Gouveia will be told to shut-up and look for results.

Some weeks ago, it was an ordinary drainage pump valued at US$400,000 (G$80M), supplied by an ex-engineer of the Drainage and Irrigation (D&I) department.  Expensive pumps are also being purchased  for the D&I projects on the Essequibo Coast.

No tendering, no transparency.  What next?
Where are our opposition parliamentary parties?
Oh accountability, thou has fled to brutish beasts and men have lost their reason.
Yours faithfully,
 Mohamed Imtiaz Ally
