Five persons won both the Kata and Kumite divisions at the Guyana Japan Karate Association’s 2008 National Championships which took place yesterday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
Christy Dey, Mikhail Brooms, Prince Roberts, Kristina Cheeks and Nathalie Gibson triumphed in both forms of the discipline at the one-day championships which was conducted under the keen eyes of Chief Judge Master Frank Woon-a-Tai, seventh Dan Black Belt.
The championships which were sponsored by Mings Products & Services Ltd.,
GT&T Cellink, the National Sports Commission and Nicholas Hing, will be used to select a team to represent Guyana at the 2008 ISKF World Championships to be held in Toronto, Canada in October. Stabroek Sport was reliably informed that the team would be selected before the end of the week.
Dey triumphed in the females ’8-11 years category; Brooms won in the males ’10-11 years category; Roberts in the boy’s ‘12-13 years category; Cheeks in the girl’s 12-17 years category abd Goibson in ‘’18 yearsand over category. Following are the Results.
